Nice atmosphere! Friendly. Clean. A smaller scale store with a nice variety of food and products including a hot and cold food bar. They offer community programs and outreach in their upstairs office space which are also available to rent for private gatherings.

I had an excellent experience at Detroit People's Food Co-Op. The people who work there were very helpful and friendly. I sampled their soul food bar (prepared food)...it was dang good. The salad bar looked good too. I plan to return.

Man I really wanted to love this place as an option to buy local and not have to go to the suburbs to get healthy food. Unfortunately it’s so expensive I might as well go to Whole Foods. I also noticed there’s very few options for people with WIC. I spent $80 for two bags of food that only included one package of chicken and one package of lunch meat.. I skipped some things on my list because I couldn’t afford it. I really wanted a good option for Detroiters that can’t afford Whole Foods but want reliably healthy and fresh foods and it feels like this isn’t it. Didn’t really solve the food desert issue in Detroit and that makes me so sad. They didn’t have any cheese, milk or eggs that are WIC approved And the options are so limited. Won’t be going back and I’m so disappointed about that. I don’t understand how anyone in these reviews can afford it.

Purchased today. Got it home and the one was covered in mold, the other is past the sell by date. Attempted to call and no one answers the phone. Hoping to get assistance for a refund at least. They definitely need to check the bread items. Thankfully, everything else was fine.

I read about Detroit People’s Food Co-op and once I heard they were an African American led community owned grocery outlet I knew I had to pay a visit and support this business. The store very modern and beautiful, there were the most beautiful murals on the walls, and the staff/customers seemed very pleasant. All of the produce looked fresh, There were a variety of dairy products as well as dairy alternatives I’ve never heard of. I got some kefir drink, mushrooms, broccoli, and cream cheese. I plan on using these ingredients for some dishes that I like to make for the unhoused and poor. Thank you guys for your service and I pray you receive Allah SWT’s blessings in abundance.
